Transforming Ocean Beach
Empowering Veterans and Homeless with Gardening, Beekeeping
At Veterans PTSD Cure, we are joining the Veterans and homeless in Ocean Beach California and believe in the transformative power of nature, community, and healing.
Our mission is to revitalize the lives of veterans and homeless individuals in Ocean Beach, California, by providing them with the tools to rebuild, reconnect, and rediscover purpose through urban gardening, beekeeping, and cooperative business opportunities.

Why Veterans & Homeless?
Both the veterans and homeless often share a similar journey to the streets—whether due to traumatic loss, PTSD, or life-altering events. Veterans, suffering from PTSD, chronic pain, and struggles with mental health, often feel disconnected from society.
The homeless, many of whom have experienced devastating loss or personal tragedy, face challenges of depression, isolation, and hopelessness. Together, these two groups can find strength in their shared experiences and work toward a common goal: healing, community, and rebuilding their lives through meaningful work.

Our program offers a holistic approach by combining the therapeutic benefits of urban gardening and beekeeping with cooperative opportunities that create a sense of ownership and empowerment.
Veterans gain access to non-traditional forms of PTSD therapy and pain management, while the homeless discover renewed purpose, job skills, and a support network that fosters self-sufficiency.
Our Goals For Homeless In Ocean Beach California:
- Create Urban Gardens: Transform vacant and underutilized spaces in Ocean Beach into vibrant gardens that produce food, medicinal herbs, and peaceful spaces for healing and reflection.
- Introduce Beekeeping Therapy: Beekeeping offers therapeutic benefits, helping reduce anxiety and chronic pain, while encouraging mindfulness. Our veterans benefit from beekeeping’s healing power, and the homeless gain valuable job skills, learning how to manage and care for hives.
- Foster Cooperative Opportunities: Veterans and the homeless will have the chance to work together in a co-op, developing skills and contributing to a shared enterprise. This co-op model empowers participants to share in the responsibility and profits of the food and honey produced, creating a sustainable pathway toward self-reliance and community-building.
- Build a Community of Hope: Uniting veterans and the homeless under a common cause fosters mutual respect and shared purpose. The program is designed to build relationships, provide support, and offer a safe space for healing while creating pathways for economic independence.
