A Sanctuary: Bees, Veterans, and the Homeless
We are creating something extraordinary in San Diego—a Bee Kingdom where bees can thrive, and both veterans and the homeless can find new hope and purpose. At Veterans PTSD Cure (CURE = Creating Urban Residential Environments), we’re blending environmental restoration with community healing, bringing together pollinator conservation, sustainable urban agriculture, and therapeutic programs for those who need it most.
Join us on this journey to create a safe haven for native bees and to empower our veterans and homeless individuals through beekeeping, gardening, and education.
The Vision: Why a Bee Kingdom?
The Bee Kingdom is about more than just saving bees—it’s about rebuilding connections to nature and to each other. Bees are essential to our ecosystem. They pollinate plants, support local agriculture, and contribute to a healthy environment. But their populations are rapidly declining, and we must act to protect them.
At the same time, veterans and the homeless often feel disconnected from society, struggling with PTSD, depression, and loss. Through hands-on work with bees and nature, they can regain a sense of purpose, build new skills, and reconnect with the community. Together, we can transform San Diego into a flourishing hub for both people and pollinators.
The Bee Kingdom Include:
Bee Sanctuaries & Hives We’ll create protected spaces for both honeybees and native bees to thrive and pollinate. These hives will serve as therapeutic resources for veterans and the homeless while also contributing to the health of local gardens and food crops.
Pollinator-Friendly Gardens Lush, thriving gardens filled with native plants, flowers, and food crops will surround the hives, supporting the bees and providing organic produce for our community and participants in the program.
Veteran & Homeless Beekeeping Program Veterans and homeless individuals will learn valuable beekeeping skills, from hive management to honey production. This hands-on experience is not only therapeutic, but also provides future economic opportunities in urban agriculture.
Beehives in Schools & Community Engagement We’re bringing the magic of bees to local schools, where students can view live bee colonies, learn about pollination, and understand the importance of bees in our ecosystem.
We’ll also offer see-through hives that can be displayed in homes or community centers—combining education with art. These visually stunning hives will allow you to witness the beauty of a living colony in action, offering a unique blend of science, nature, and art for any space.
Honey Production & Sales The honey harvested from our hives will be sold locally to support the project. Each jar of honey will symbolize not only the bees’ hard work, but also the healing and growth of veterans and homeless individuals involved in the process.
